Lost & Found - Funzaggy Dominica

So 'Lost & Found' may seem misplaced here on the Funzaggy Blog to some - right? No, no, no... We know; kids do not get lost at Funzaggy activities. They belong right here with us. Now yes, yes, yes, yes...parents know just where to find their kids when Funzaggy is around. Duh!

We could provide so many scenarios on the above but lets stay on track here please. The matter at hand is Lost & Found items. We had to do this. We had to set up a Lost and Found segment here at Funzaggy. So look out for our Lost & Found album on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/FunZaggyKidsEdutainment/Long over due.

OK. Let's get to the meat of the matter.

Have you ever seen a group of kids having the time of their lives? Like really having a fun time? Well it happens at Funzaggy. There is no mercy and things go flying everywhere, things are placed everywhere, things disappear like magic and then... oh boy! Now, check out Funzaggy's staff: "Oh, look under the bouncy house." "hmm, it might be in the mini ballpit or she may have dropped it in the orange sand." The circumstances differ from event to event.

Some of the 'Lost & Found' items throughout the years have included:
  • Articles of Clothing
  • Jewelry
  • Back Packs
  • Lunch Boxes
  • Cell Phones
  • Toys
  • Shoes
  • Electronic Games
  • Hair Accessories
  • Money

The only constant though is that at each event something is lost, something is perceived to be lost or something is found. Staff at Funzaggy always make the effort to ensure that children leave events with their belongings by being vigilant, announcing 'Lost and found' or by informing events' hosts as soon as items are discovered so that it can be broadcasted via the microphone. We however sometimes discover items during pack up when guests have already left or items are discovered during clean up of our games and activities. So check our Facebook page to see whether we have placed any notifications or uploaded any images of something 'Lost & Found'

We at Funzaggy are happy to have helped our lil' friends and their parents find so many of their lost and treasured items throughout the years. Now we hope that this little' gesture will make a big difference in finding that precious soft baby bear, that ring from her favourite aunt or the coolest hand held game that he saved up to purchase. We love that you come to our kids' activities and we want to ensure that you always leave with just FUN memories!

Have your kids done Sand Art with FunZaggy?

FunZaggy is happy to have introduced Sand Art to many children here in Dominica. It certainly has been a great addition to our fun packages. Many of the children had no idea what it was at first however the amazingly bright variety of coloured sand was enough to quicken their pace to surround this tabletop activity, ready to have fun with it. Indeed, Sand Art has been a hit from day one and the momentum continues as there's always a new design, a new sand colour, new stages of development or a new friend to introduce to this fun activity.

What is Sand Art?

Okay, just in case you have no idea what I'm talking about, Sand Art is an absolutely positive, simple, beautiful and delightful activity where children create artwork by making use of brightly coloured sand. It is enjoyed by both boys and girls including tweens and teens. Sometimes, even parents and caretakers join the fun. At Funzaggy, we provide two variants of this activity. Here's a brief description of each.

Sand Bottles: Participants are provided with small, clear, fun-shaped plastic bottles. Each participant picks a bottle of his/her choice. Bowls are lined up on the table sporting a bright shade of sand in each. Using a funnel, spoonfuls of each, or selected colours of sand are placed in layers in the bottle, forming a rainbow looking design. This is continued until the bottle is full to the brim. It is then fitted with a bottle stopper. Participants happily view each other's designs and take home their prized possessions.

Sand Cards: Participants are provided with pre-designed cards and picks. The picks are used to gradually peel off the top layer of the design below which, adhesive is found. The participant then approaches the bowl which contains the colored sand of his/her choice. He/she adds the chosen color to the peeled off section. The sand adheres to the surface and that section has been colored. the process is repeated until the design is complete. A plastic sleeve is provided to store and protect the design.

The Developmental Benefits of Sand Art

  • Cognitive Development: This activity involves planning and problem solving as the children approach this activity. 'Where should I begin? Which colors best suit this design? I made a little error, how can I fix it?'

  • Development of  Fine Motor Skills: This activity involves using small picks for peeling layers, lifting of edges and distribution of sand -  a process which facilitates coordination of fingers, hands and eyes.

  • Creativity: This activity affords the child the use of imagination. Instead of the traditional yellow sun, we have seen many pink suns and candy swirl colored oceans. hmm, this may just be the birth of something big.

  • Confidence Building: Children enjoy managing their own affairs while doing this activity. This fosters independence. They also feel a sense of accomplishment after having picked their own colours and created their own masterpieces.

  • Socialization: As children work around the table, they converse while asking for help, giving compliments, asking for advice etc. They even compare and contrast designs during and after the activity.

Where to do Sand Art

Sand Art is a great activity to do just about anywhere where there's a group of children. Some of the best places are at Holiday Parties, Birthday Parties, Fairs, School and Church activities, Festivals among others. FunZaggy has presented Sand Art Stations at most of the major events on island. We have also set up at various birthday parties. It sure has been a BLAST. The children really enjoy this activity.

Big HELLO from FunZaggy!

Welcome! Welcome! Welcome to the Funzaggy Kids blog. Really, I meant to start this blog sooner as we are eager to begin the fun and learning with you as well as letting you know what's up with FunZaggy. So here we are finally!

Our fun kids friendly activity business is based on the Caribbean Island of Dominica. We cater to kids, tweens and teens- by providing fun and creative activities at events like birthday parties, festivals, holiday camps, fundraisers, fairs, carnivals, family reunions and the like. Our activities include sand art, face painting, bouncy castles, slot car racing, hopper balls, parachutes, mini ball pits, educational activities and so much more.

Well you may be wondering about the name Funzaggy. Start guessing! Where in the world did this name come from? You figured it out? eh? eh?

Okay Okay- I'll tell you. It came from the mind of a play-play. First choice was Zigzaggy to represent the fun, carefree movements of children at play but Alas..... It was already taken...The domain name was gone. So without much delay, FUN was added. Guess you know why. We were about to have lots of F-U-N. So it became Fun+zaggy= Funzaggy. (We sometimes add an uppercase Z to add to the flare). The name was tested along with a few other names and the selected group of children chose Funzaggy-  Yes! So there you have it- FUNZAGGY: Where kids are Fun & Bright!

Having a fun time with Funzaggy
2014 marks our third year of operation and it sure has been a fun ride. It is such joy to meet the children at annual events like LIME's Creole in the Park, Discover Dominica's Jazz 'n Creole, RUSM Holiday Parties and the like and to hear stories of where they've hung up their sand art and why they are about to create another piece. So cool to look back at their face painting pictures and see how much they've grown. Awesome to assist at fundraisers and such a pleasure to see the children at school checking to see if the bouncy castle has arrived.

We are currently preparing to launch a kids fun store (kids merchandise). We will tell you more about it as soon as it is launched but we can guarantee you that it is just what parents and children will really, really like.

Simply put, our objective is to keep our island's children and visitors alike- entertained, by providing wholesome activities to stimulate creativity. We on the other hand, sure enjoy the smiles, the giggles and the bright remarks.

Thank you for stopping by and remember to visit Funzaggy. Oh be sure to leave a comment. We would be delighted to hear from you. Thank you. :)
